Igneous

I ached for my early creation
For the fire, the passion, the heart.
To melt as one at the core of it all.
But cold and hard with jagged edge
Still they used me as a pillar.
I was placed within a ring,
Of rocks around the fire.
It made me hungry for the lick of flames
Burning deep within.
Cold water on my back tore tears
As I was drawn from home.
But under my diamond heart, someone lit a match
And by degrees, became a phoenix
My soul enveloped in flame
I may some days begin to cool,
But I tap down to the magma
The centre of it all.
