COLD - THE “SHRIEK” OF WINTER

hand reaches: grasps and turns; slowly
brace yourself –
pull.

The creaking hinge, an exclamation mark,
For the offensive onslaught.
Icy claws shred through the layers.
Ice as milk on cereal, on a winter morning
Artificial bubble wrap rises on cool skin,
The lungs imagine drowning,
While marshaling the courage to expand again.

Luke warm and salty,
Water from eyes, melts a trail
Which the wind disdainfully licks,
Leaving a frost kiss on its heatbag
Unpleasant as a slobbery dog,
Though, in a different way.

Sneakers whinge along the pavement,
After an unfortunately moist shortcut
Bemoaning the hole, feet wriggle,
Remembering circulation.
numbness Feels unpleasant
The frozen chicken sausages
Fumble.

hand reaches: grasps and turns; hurriedly
push.
